Bob Fioretti’s legal career spans over three decades of advocating for justice in both the courtroom and the community. As Senior Supervising Attorney in the General Litigation Division under Mayor Harold Washington, Bob supervised more than 500 civil rights cases and personally tried over 100 cases that influenced state and federal law. He has served as both Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois and Special Assistant State’s Attorney, earning respect across party lines for his skill, fairness, and perseverance.
Bob has never avoided challenging cases. He represented a wrongfully convicted man who spent 11½ years in prison, helping secure his release, exoneration, and gubernatorial pardon. He also fought for Baby Tamia’s family in a high-profile case that revealed flaws in Illinois’ adoption law and led to important reforms to safeguard children and families. These victories highlight Bob’s core belief: the law should serve the people, not powerful interests. That conviction has guided his entire career.
Proven Public Service and Leadership
Elected by Chicago’s 2nd Ward in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, Bob served as alderman for one of the city’s most diverse districts, stretching from the West Side through the South Loop and Bronzeville. On the City Council, he prioritized education, job creation, and public safety.
Protecting Students
Bob worked with educators, law enforcement, and parents to launch Operation Safe Passage, ensuring children could travel safely to and from school. He championed strong neighborhood schools and directed TIF resources toward building the new Jones College Prep High School, creating opportunities that keep families in the city.
Creating Jobs
Bob brought thousands of jobs to Chicago. He supported United Airlines’ relocation to the Loop, the expansion of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and the Rush Medical Center redevelopment, which alone provided 500 jobs for local residents. He also worked to attract retailers such as Trader Joe’s, Target, and Costco, while supporting small businesses through job fairs and startup assistance.
Fighting Food Deserts
He helped bring Pete’s Fresh Market to the West Side, ensuring access to healthy, affordable food while creating jobs.
Expanding Parks and Green Space
Recognized as Legislator of the Year by Friends of the Parks, Bob invested in new and renovated parks across the 2nd Ward, ensuring safe, vibrant spaces for Chicago families.
Bob’s record as alderman reflects his leadership style: collaborative, pragmatic, and relentlessly focused on results that improve lives.
Integrity for Illinois
As Attorney General, Bob will bring the same independence and determination that have defined his career. He is committed to:
Protecting consumers and families from fraud, scams, and corporate abuse.
Holding government accountable by exposing corruption and ensuring transparency at all levels.
Safeguarding civil rights so every Illinoisan has equal protection under the law.
Defending communities by supporting local law enforcement, fighting gun violence, and addressing the root causes of crime.
Championing education and opportunity by enforcing laws that guarantee equal access and fair treatment for students and families.
Illinoisans deserve an Attorney General who serves people, not political insiders. Bob’s record proves he is that person.
Deep Chicago Roots
Bob was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side in the Pullman and Roseland neighborhoods. As a first-generation American, his father immigrated through Ellis Island and found employment at the Pullman train car company. Supported by a Pullman Foundation scholarship, Bob attended the University of Illinois, earning a degree in Political Science while serving as Student Body President. He later earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he also served as an adjunct faculty member and President of the NIU National Alumni Association.
Bob’s commitment to community service runs deeply. He has led organizations such as the Historic Pullman Foundation, served on the Illinois Supreme Court’s Character and Fitness Committee, and contributed to the Chicago Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluation Committee. His service embodies the values he would bring to the Attorney General’s office: integrity, fairness, and accountability. Today, Bob and his wife, Nicki, live on historic Jackson Boulevard in Chicago, where they remain active members of their community.
